Sometimes in September is already a hit with the reviewers! Here's some of what they're saying about this sweet time travel romance...

Linda L. from FAR gives it --5 ANGELS!
Cassidy McKay pens a great story on survival, love, and discovery that kept this reader captivated. It was a historical period that I thoroughly loved....With in depth characters and strong emotions, this is one tale that captures the reader from the first page to the last. Thanks Ms. McKay for sketching a story so convincingly real it grabs the reader completely.

Debbie from ck2s Kwips & Kritiques gives it --5 CLOVERS!
...a beautifully written time travel. Cassidy McKay demonstrates a real gift at producing an emotionally wrenching and very powerful story...Cassidy McKay expertly weaves a tale in which the reader is so drawn into the story that it is as if you are there...SOMETIMES IN SEPTEMBER is a sweet tale of love and hope despite all odds. While there are elements of violence due to the nature of the time period, each aspect is sensitively addressed making this tale appropriate for mature young adult readers as well as adults. Highly recommended!

Marcy from The Romance Studio gives it -- 4 HEARTS!
Ms. McKay has done a wonderful job of writing in a well known historical era. Her characters are well-described and they fit well into their historical time. I enjoyed this story a great deal.

Alyssa's Choice

I'm so excited to announce that Alyssa's Choice is releasing in 11 days, and is already getting great reviews!

Here's a Sneak Peak of Alyssa's Choice!

I learned at our chat the other night that Alyssa's Choice will be up for Book of the Month at Sensual Reads! It received a 5 rose review! [snoopy dance]

Oh! And don't forget about the Zuzu's Petals Writing Contest we have going on over at Twilight Fantasies! Deadline is May 15th!

Short blurb:
Two sexy werewolves long to help heal Alyssa's broken heart. Will Alyssa make the right choice?

Excerpt:
“Eight ball, side pocket.” Marc pointed the cue stick toward the left side of the table before squaring his shoulders and taking aim.Conner watched his friend sink the eight ball with a smile. Marc’s gloating didn’t bother him in the least. There was a time no man could beat Conner at this game.
Now, the game wasn’t what was on his mind. In fact, Conner often found himselfwondering why he had a game room.
Using his preternatural senses, Conner tuned out the sound of the overly loud music Marc insisted they play and listened to the sounds of his wife in the kitchen: the pots clinking, cabinet doors shutting, Alexis humming. Those sounds were the music he wanted filling his life right now.
Urghhhh. Why couldn’t Marc get a clue? Being a werewolf himself, Marcshould know that the only person Conner wanted to spend time with tonight was Alexis.
“I think you purposely visit me the night before the full moon so you can win.”
Conner placed his cue stick back in its stand.
Marc smirked, but sheepishly averted his eyes. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“You know damn well what I mean. I can’t think of anything but Lexi the night before a full moon, and you know it. That’s okay, bud. You’ll get yours one day. Just wait until you find your mate.” Conner sipped his beer.
Taking Conner’s hint that the game was over, Marc strode to his side of the room and placed his cue stick in the stand. Picking up his own beer, Marc’s eyes narrowed on Conner. “I found my mate, man. She just doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
Conner thought he noticed a hint of sadness on Marc’s features.
“She’ll come around, man. She’s just still not sure what to think about us.”
Conner knew Marc had his sights set on Alyssa Cooke, Lexi’s sister.“She dumped me for a human, Conner. How can you be so sure she’ll come around?”
To be an eighty year old werewolf, Marc still had a tendency to whine like a teenager. His dark brown eyes seemed to brood. Marc stalked to the fireplace and picked up a picture. He ran his finger down the side of her face and sighed.
Conner shook his head. “You’ve gotta give her time, man. She just found out she’s a carrier six months ago. It was a shock for her.”
“Whatever.” Marc replaced the picture. “Lexi just found out she was a carrier seven months ago, and she let you turn her within a month.”
“That was different. Alexis was already pregnant when she let me turn her. She wanted it for the sake of our baby. Besides, Lexi and Alyssa are two very different people.” Conner ran his hand through his hair in frustration. He knew he should be more concerned for his friend’s plight, but all he wanted was for him to leave so he couldspend the night making love to his wife.
The sounds in the kitchen changed. No longer were they happy sounds. Cabinet doors opened and closed with loud bangs.
Shit! What now? Conner thought as he rushed from the room to find out what else would ruin his plans for tonight.
His groin pulsed when he saw her bent over to peer under the sink. Her tummy was well-rounded with their child and her feet were swollen, but she never looked more beautiful to Conner. He wanted to make love to her, tenderly, for hours. He longed to hear her call out when he made her come for him over and over again.
“Tell me what you’re looking for, Lexi. I’ll find it for you.” Conner kept his voice calm. He could tell she was upset about something, but knew better than to ask what until she was ready to tell him. He breathed a quick prayer that it wasn’t his faultand crossed the room toward her.
Alexis was seven months pregnant, which would make her moody enough if that were all. But that wasn’t all. She was also a werewolf. Which meant that aside from the pregnancy hormone-induced mood swings, she was also at the beck and call of the moon.
Hell hath no fury like a pissed-off pregnant werewolf on the night before the full moon.
“Honey?” Conner gently touched the small of her back. She whirled around and growled, “Don’t you ‘Honey’ me! Find me a hammer.”
Her yellowed eyes and elongated nails told him to back away and find a hammer as quickly as possible.
“Here it is, Lexi.” He lay the hammer down on the counter when he noticed she was still looking through cabinets. “I thought you needed the hammer?”
“Lighter fluid.” Her yellowed eyes had tears in them. He longed to pull her into his arms, but when he stepped forward, she growled at him. He stepped back, but his heart ached. A wolf’s instinct is to defend itself when it is hurting. For werewolves, this translates into emotional as well as physical pain. So, Conner couldn’t be sure what kind of pain Alexis was in.
“It’s in the garage. I’ll get it, hon… uh, Lexi.” Conner scurried from the kitchen wondering if she was going into premature labor. Werewolves had stronger infants than humans, so he knew the baby would be okay, but he wasn’t sure he was ready to see Alexis in that much pain.
“Here it is.” He looked around the kitchen, but Alexis was not there. Marc was leaned against the wall with a shocked expression on his face.
“I thought she was literally going to rip my head off,” he told Conner.
“Where is she?”
“Out front.” Marc pointed to the front door, still standing ajar.Once outside, Conner saw his very pregnant wife attempting to lift a barbeque grill into the bed of his truck.
“Lexi. Stop. You can’t lift that. You might hurt yourself or the baby.”
“I need the barbecue grill,” she growled at him. Her teeth were elongating.
“Yes, ma’am. Let me get that for you.”

Non-Fiction horror in a fiction writer's life

While I write fiction as a writer, sometimes real life rudely intervenes and pulls me from my imaginary worlds.

I live in Northern California, and three of my children are in the public schools here (the youngest is still at home). Yesterday afternoon while typing away, the phone rang. It was an automated alert telling me that my eldest son's high school was in lockdown due to a "credible threat", and had been since that morning. Police were swarming the area, looking for the suspect.

That should make me feel safe, right? Wrong. I'll add a little personal history here: I worked for police and fire departments for 16 years. You can't always find the bad guy in time to save the innocents.

This specific person had apparently called his pastor, saying that he had an AK-47, explosives, and poison, and was going to make the school shooting at Virginia Tech look "mild" compared to what he was going to do. He lived in the city next to where my eldest son's school is. While it was very difficult to find current and accurate information, the rumors were sure flying.

I had my husband pick my eldest son up from high school while I retrieved two of my younger ones from their school. We frantically searched the news channels for information, the internet local news websites for updates, and my son was on the phone with his friends constantly. We received another automated message that all schools in the surrounding 5 counties had been closed for today (Friday), just as a precaution. Another friend told us the suspect's cell phone had been traced and he had been making calls within sight of my son's school.

*gulp* Sometimes reality hits hard.

Eventually, the suspect turned himself in, with his current girlfriend telling media how sweet a person he was and that he'd never hurt anybody (by the way, he did this while he was out on bail for spousal abuse on his wife...yeah, the girlfriend has her own fantasy world).

I had to explain to my 6-yr. old daughter and my developmentally delayed 8-yr. old son why they weren't going to school today. She was crying after I picked her up yesterday, saying everyone at the school was saying that a man was going to come with a gun and kill them all.

As a writer, I hear the best fiction is based in truth. I've used the tactic myself. However, this is one truth that I won't put in any of my stories... the real horror experienced by the families, friends, and students of Virginia Tech; the survivors of Columbine; and the many other tragedies which have been all over the media are enough.

While that psycho sits in a cold, hard jail cell, hopefully coming down from his meth high, I'm hopeful that there's someone even nastier than him in the next cell who takes a big dislike to him.

Am I bitter? Vindictive? Yep, I sure am.

We were lucky--our kids are all home safe, and we just got one of those "appreciate it while you have it" scares. Too many don't have the chance to reevaluate the things precious in their life. On that note, I think I'm going to take the rest of the night off, spend it with my family and cuddle my kids.

Remember all those stories that Uncle Bob, that great storyteller, used to tell around the campfire? You know, the scary ones, about supernatural creatures that just couldn’t exist. The ones that when you looked over at your father to see if they were true, he just rolled his eyes and shook his head.
Well, what if father didn’t know best this time? What if Uncle Bob was right, and those stories about vampires, shapeshifters, witches, spirits, mutants and fairies were all true.
And what if those same campfire stories were living right next to you, blending in with "normal" people, just going about their daily lives, the way you go about yours.
These stories are about some of them….

The first in the long awaited paranormal series by best selling, award winning author

CJ England

A war is coming, and Kira, the Peacekeeper has been sent to stop it. Created by an unknown Power for good, she is sent into the lower city of San Francisco to join with a group of supernatural leaders, in order to find a way to prevent the war.
But her way is fraught with distraction, and danger. In order to complete her mission, she must join with different men, all leaders of their kind. As she does so, she finds herself surrounded by the Chosen…six handsome supernaturals, two of which want more from her, than just a magical joining. As this group begins to blend in a force ready to fight for good, she is confronted by her own yearnings, confused by a desire she doesn’t understand. Should she give herself to Gallegar the vampire, who owns her heart? Or to Lucas, a wolf shapeshifter, who has brought passion into her life? And how can she do either, when she has been called to chastity?
As Kira struggles with these questions, evil attacks her, and it is only the love of her Chosen that can save her. But this evil is clever, and wants her dead. Will their sacrifice be enough?

And how about a contest to celebrate this new release???

THE JOINING is an epic tale of birth and discovery, and I believe the contest should reflect that new life.

So I have gathered together a wonderful basket of spring items. Inside will be all kinds of flower seeds, (Moonflower included, of course) Gardening decorations, jewelry, note cards, chocolate roses, and many other beautiful springtime goodies.

To win this basket, valued at $25.00, go on a little scavenger hunt... To get all the details, go to my website, and click on CONTESTS

And thanks to everyone who has supported me and bought this book, as well as any of my others!!!!

Joan Swan at Romance Worth Killing for Blog asked for us to share our "Stranger than Fiction" stories. This is the one I shared with them, and I thought I'd share it here with you as well!

Are ya ready for this, lol?

A few years back, my hubby and I were riding a four-wheeler and flipped it (my fault entirely-- I leaned with instead of against). Well, I put my hand down and my arm SNAPPED! I dislocated it at the elbow. But then, I let my arm straighten, and it POPPED right back into place.

I got to the emergency room, and the doctors didn't believe me! They sent me for X-Rays and were talking about releasing me-- with NOTHING, not even pain medicine, (though by that time, my arm was swollen to twice it's normal size and was starting to turn a brilliant purple). When they brought me back to the emergency room hospital bed (where I would stay until I got my release forms), the bed slipped away from me, and I fell...

I put my arm out to stop myself and the pressure caused it to dislocate. I was screaming bloody-murder at the pain (because I still hadn't received any pain medication) and my hubby picked me back up off the floor and sat me in a chair. (While one doctor was yelling at another doctor, "I told you that bed was broken and to get it out of here!")

As I sat back in my chair, I calmed and let my arm relax again. When it straightened, it POPPED right back into place again.

I guess I just had to prove to those people that there WAS something wrong. They immediately set about to help me, and I finally got something for pain.

As I lay there in almost blissful oblivion, the doctor actually said to me, "You know, it would've been better on you if you'd just broken your arm."

To which I replied, "I'll keep that in mind next time." (wicked giggle)

So, does anyone else have any "Stranger than Fiction" stories to share?

It's Spring Break!

I think I needed Spring Break this year as much as my kids did! I'm so excited to get some things done this week. Yep-- I plan to WORK the entire week, but NOT on school related stuff.

I spent today editing. We're getting ready for opening day at Twilight Fantasies Publications. Less than five weeks away, and I couldn't be more excited!

I've been sending out review requests this week for all of May 2nd's releases. Isn't that exciting!? I'm going to run through some research this week, and decide on a cart. I also have tons of updates and behind the scenes work to do.

Will I have any fun on Spring Break? Of course! I find all of this fun (even if it is a little stressful at times). I'm getting so excited I can't sleep! But, yes, I will be doing things other TFP related things. We've spent the last few weeks getting the pool cleaned and ready. The hubby vacuumed it today. Hopefully, tomorrow the kids and I can play. :D

Also, the muse is really singing right now! I hope to get some writing done this week-- if I can ever get her to settle on which story she wants to write. ROFL. Not that I'm complaining. I'd rather have too many stories in my head than none at all!

And, I'm going to spend some time reading this week. I think the fact that I've taken some time to read has really awakened my muse. I'm currently reading The Dream-Hunter by Sherrilyn Kenyon! If you like the Dark Hunter series, or love stories of Atlantis, mythology, or magick, you'll love The Dream-Hunter! I'm going to blog about it at my blog once I finish reading it.

Alyssa's Choice will debut on May 2nd! I can't wait! These are exciting times!

Oh, and Cassidy-- I WANT TO BE EROTIC! ROFL. Not that I'm entering the contest-- I just wanted to say it.

Great Books and Free Erotic Goodies!!

Hi everyone!

I've finally finished my first newsletter and would like to invite everyone (18 yrs or older) to join my new Yahoo group.

It's extremely low-volume, maybe one a month at most. No chatting, just a newsletter about me that you can either read on the group or download to your computer to read later.

Find out the latest news, gossip, what I'm reading now, fun tidbits and information, what books I have coming out and other information. I'm hoping it will be a fun, informative newsletter that you'll look forward to reading.

Now, did I mention FREE EROTIC GOODIES??

Oh my, I sure did! I had a fun little shopping spree in our local erotic store (where the owner also invited me to do in-store book signings!). Now, with some help from the owner, some outrageous suggestions, and lots of blushes and giggles, we gathered together a bunch of fun little ... goodies... to help celebrate and promote my newsletter.

Now, if you would like a chance to be in a drawing for some of these goodies, or one of my e-books of your choice, I would like to invite you to join my newsletter group. I will pick one winner at random from my newsletter group.

Or...

Come to one of my other groups (links below), blog, or MySpace group, and shout out on the list: CASSIDY - I WANT TO BE EROTIC! Yep, that's all you have to do. Embarrassing? Well, yes, maybe a little bit. But I got to be embarrassed and buy the stuff in person ;). lol. It was SO much fun, though! Okay, I'll settle for something similar, but let loose! Be Creative! Have some fun! Get ready for these little goodies and be erotic. :)

I'll pick another winner at random from the groups/myspace/blog. The more places I see you, the more chances you have to WIN!
(Oh, and you have to be 18 or over to win the erotic goodies or books--don't want to contribute to the delinquency of minors, ya know...just adults! LOL.)

See you soon!

Romantic Tips from CJ England

Romantic Tip of the Month

Spring is on the way and this month's tip is all about spring fun with that very special someone. Ready? Have fun!

Enjoying time with the one you love doesn't have to be expensive. Jonathon and I made a New Years Resolution to spend more quality time together, but we didn't want to spend a lot of money unnecessarily. We were concerned about connecting with each other and getting closer...not about impressing each other with how expensive a date we could plan. So we sat down and did some research and found out there are a lot of fun activities that don't cost an arm and a leg.

In fact, we challenged each other. One week he plans a date, and the next week is my turn. And we can't spend more than $20.00. So far we have gone on an all day motorcycle ride (cost $3.00 for gas), spent the afternoon at a nature preserve (cost $8.00 for coffee and dessert), walked around Old Town, a fun quirky shopping area in Kissimmee ($12.00 for pizza), and bicycling and swimming in Wekiwa Springs State Park ($5.00 entrance fee). In just a month, we have drawn closer together and are really connecting in a way we never have before. Why? Because we have taken time to get to know each other again without a bunch of things in the way.

Whether you are in a new relationship, or have been married for a while like myself, you have to work at keeping a relationship alive and healthy. Taking time to just be with the other person without the distractions of kids, TV, work or even money to get in the way. It might take a little while to get in the habit, but I promise you, the rewards will be absolutely awesome!!!

So...to get you started, here are a few things you can look to do in your own town!

1. State Parks... Go online for information. Here in Florida, the websites are filled with great info to help you make your decision.

2. Nature Preserves... Different than state parks, some have a slight cost, but if you like the outdoors, these are inexpensive and the solitude is wonderful.

3. Window shopping... I hate to shop, but finding specific areas like we did in Kissimmee and just wandering is a lot of fun. Add a cup of coffee and popcorn and you have a wonderful afternoon of inexpensive enjoyment.

4. Museums... Some cost, some don't. Many have days that are inexpensive or free. Google them and find out and plan ahead.

5. Matinees or Dollar Movie Theatres... Most large towns have dollar theaters, but matinees are still a fun way of escaping. Plus, you can cuddle with your honey!

6. Extreme Date Night.. This isn't for the faint of heart. Crash a wedding or reception. Maneuver your way into a party or museum opening. Can be a little nerve wracking, but the adrenaline rush makes up for it. So does the sex at the end of the night!

Whatever you do...make sure you have fun. These are just some ideas, and you can add your own as you discover them. That too, is part of the fun. Working at keeping your love healthy and alive may be difficult, but as I said before...it is worth every second!

And for some great romantic dates, check out these websites. They are full of great ideas!

I'm Multitasking!

I want to thank everyone who came to my cancel this weekend. Lycaon's Lair was really hopping on my birthday. The authors came out in force with their excerpts. Lots of ladies shared hottie pics. One lucky reader will receive a five dollar gift certificate to Fictionwise; one author will receive a banner ad at Coffee Time Romance. The winner of the five dollar gift certificate is Robin2. The winner of the banner ad is Megan Rose.

To write this blog, I am using a dictation devise called Dragon naturally speaking. My hubby got it for me for my birthday. I decided to see how well I could multitask using the device. So I set my laptop on the counter and my ski glider in front of it. Now I am blogging and working out at the same time. Because this device is not used to my Southern slang, it is taking longer than usual to write this blog. The upside is that I am doing two things at once. Once this devise has adjusted to my speech patterns, it's supposed to be faster than typing. They devise is not the only thing that has to be trained. I am having to train myself not to slur words together, which I didn't even realize I was doing before I got the devise. This morning on the way to work, I looked it up in my car. I talked most of the way to work, and wrote over 500 words. Because I wasn't looking at the screen. I have a lot of typos to correct; however, the meat of the prologue of my new story is written. I had writer's block on the way home, so I brainstormed aloud. I now have detailed notes about my hero about my heroine and about the story itself. So far, I'm pretty impressed with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I'll keep you posted as to how well this thing works over the next few months. I have now finished, a blog post and a 30 minute workout all at the same time. Not that it took Dragon NaturallySpeaking 30 minutes to dictate this post. I just seem to have a harder time coming up with the words when I have to say them out loud, LOL. I guess that's another thing I have to train myself to do.

Come Party With CJ England

YOU ARE INVITED TO A PARTY

On February 11th, 2006 I had my first book published. I will never forget the thrill when I saw the picture of Hot Tubs and Hot Hunks up on the website for the first time. Now I have nine books published, with five making the bestseller list, and two going to #1Bestsellers!

I have thirteen other contracted books due out, have won a Canadian
Romance and Erotic Publisher's Choice Award
, won a couple of Reader's Choice Awards, and now I've been nominated for Paranormal Romance Debut Author of 2006 in the prestigious PEARL Awards.

All in all, it's been a pretty darn good first year. But, I couldn't have done it without all of you. All of you who have supported me by your e-mails, your fan letters, your reviews and by purchasing my books.

Since I can't thank each of you individually, I decided to throw a blow-out party instead! On February 11, the anniversary of my first release, I invite you all to come and party with me on my chat list.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CJsaysFollowYourDreams/

There will be all kinds of excerpts, jokes, fun and of course my own special hunks to tempt and tease you. I will be giving away one of each of my books during the day, PLUS one lucky winner will get autographed copies of both my print books! How about that???

In addition to my wonderful excerpts, I am inviting a bunch of other authors to come and help me celebrate the day. They will have their own fun stuff to share with you, and I know it will be a blast!

So mark your calendar now, and tell your friends. Why? Because the person who brings the most new friends to the party gets another special prize. The choice of any three book downloads they want!!!!

And if you already have my books...you get the next three e-book releases, absolutely free!!! Can't beat that with a stick!!!!

I know this will be a great time. Pat will dance on the bar, and Emma will regale us with more Miss WOW stories and who knows...maybe Derek will show us his thong picture again! WooHoo!!!!

Plus, I have a whole bunch of wonderful author and artist friends coming to help me celebrate! Listen to this great list...

Annmarie Ortega, Ann Cory, Anne Rainey, Cassidy McKay, Bryn Colvin, Rod Casteel, Tom of Copperage, Dahlia Rose, D. Musgrave, Jude Mason, Pennie Morgan, Rachel, Jaime Hill, Megan Rose, Rene Walden, K.L. Bjork, Terri Pray, and Trista Bane.

And maybe more!!!!!!!

So Come One! Come All! This is as much your party as mine! Come celebrate the bestest year of my life and take a bow...cause you are the reason for it!

Blessings to you all,

CJ England

Snoopy Dance!

I'm so excited to be a Sorceress! I foresee wonderful things happening with this group!

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Robin. I write under the pen name Trista Bane, so feel free to call me Trista. I normally write paranormal erotic romances, but I do have a contemporary, sweet romance (with fantasy elements) currently available for free download at Twilight Fantasies Publications. The story is called Petals in the Snow.

Besides Petals, I have three other works published. Diary of Alexis originally appeared in an anthology that has been pulled by the publisher because other authors pulled their works. It will be re-released under a new name later this year. The sequel, Alyssa's Choice, is scheduled to release on May 2, 2007. Song of Seduction is a vampire paranormal erotic romance. It features menage scenes, and is currently available at Silk's Vault Publishing. Blood of Lycaon: Dream Lover is also available now from Silk's Vault Publishing. It is the first in the Blood of Lycaon series. The second, Alanda's Trust, is expected to be released this year.

I live in Northeast Arkansas with my wonderful husband, Mack, and our three children. Our daughter is 16 (going on thirty), our oldest boy is twelve, and our youngest boy is turning eight this weekend. So, I get to throw a party and eat my favorite food-- Birthday Cake! (big grin)

I teach English (9th and 10th grades) and Creative Writing (11th and 12th grades) at an area high school. My favorite topics to teach (besides Creative Writing, lol) are fantasy and mythology. I blend my love for fantasy and mythology into my writing. Vampire Trinity, which is currently under contract with Venus Press (no word yet on a release date), is the perfect example of how much I love mythology. I also love teaching Shakespeare! No. Really! I swear! I really do love teaching it. This year, I made a video featuring clips from the movie of Romeo and Juliet and the song "Far Away" from Nickleback. My students LOVED it!

I also teach English Composition I and English Composition II (and sometimes World Literature I and World Literature II) at the local college. During the school year, I only teach one class per semester. I often teach more than one during the summer. I have an MSE in English, and I'm working part-time on my MSE in School Counseling. I guess I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, lol.

My hubby is my high school sweetheart! I love him with all my heart. He and my children are my world. My husband is not only my life-partner, but my business partner as well. He's always supported me in my writing, and has read every story I've written! I'm very lucky to have him and my children. And I'm very lucky to have such wonderful friends as CJ, Annmarie and Cassidy!

So, who wants to join me in a Snoopy Dance?
